Arturo Echavarría (Ph.D. Harvard) is Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature at the University of  Puerto Rico.  He served as director of La Torre (the official journal of the University of Puerto Rico) from 1986-1995.  He is member of the Academy of Arts & Sciences of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican Academy of the Spanish Language, and Corresponding Member of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language.  He has taught at the prestigious Cátedra Julio Cortázar (University of Guadalajara, Mexico) and the Cátedra Carlos Fuentes (Universidad Veracruzana). A specialist on Jorge Luis Borges, he is the author of Lengua y literatura de Borges (1983) and El arte de la jardinería china en Borges y otros estudios (2006).
