On March 28, 2019, the department held their first initiation ceremony of the inaugural Yale chapter, Alpha Beta Beta, of the National Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi.

The department joined Sigma Delta Pi during its centennial celebration (1919-2019).

On this special occasion, the department honored nine initiates, including five undergraduate majors: 

Maria Gargiulo, Fernando Torres, Stephanie Hickman, Romy Vassilev, and Michael Glick

and three graduate students:

Katie Brown, Stewart Atkins, and David Ortega

Professor Rolena Adorno was also inducted as an honorary member.
