Encounters with Classical Antiquity in Latin America

Encounters with Classical Antiquity in Latin America
October 27, 2017

An initiative supported by the Humanities/Humanity Program of the Whitney Humanities Center, this collaborative research project seeks to enlarge the received idea of Classical Antiquity by exploring the local, national, and regional traditions of engaging with Greek and Roman classical texts in Latin America, from the colonial era to the present day. The workshop will bring 14 scholars from Latin America, the United States, and Europe to campus to place this topic in dialogue with the growing field of classical reception studies. It is convened by Moira Fradinger (Associate Professor of Comparative Literature and Spanish & Portuguese Affiliate), Emily Greenwood (Professor of Classics), Leslie J. Harkema (Assistant Professor of Spanish), and George Syrimis (Lecturer in Hellenic Studies).

This event will be closed to the public, but you can find more information about the event, related texts, and future publications here: http://campuspress.yale.edu/classicalantiquityinlatinamerica/
