Gun Culture and Violence in Latin America: A Book Event and Discussion

Gun violence is not just an American but an Americas problem, given that half of the gun deaths in the world each year occur in just six countries in the Americas, including the US and Mexico.  And US gun culture is intimately connected with the gun violence that occurs across our borders, as a recent lawsuit by the Mexican government against US firearm manufacturers has highlighted. This event features a discussion with authors of recent books about colonial and modern Mexico and Central America, to explore this shared crisis as well as what is unique about the history and representation of violence and gun culture in the Americas. Resources and opportunities for undergraduate research and advocacy will also be addressed.
