Lindsay Stern (Yale University, Comparative Literature) will be in conversation with Julie Stone Peters (Columbia University) and Emanuele Conte (Rome 3, and EHESS-Paris) about Julie Stone Peter’s recent book, Law as Performance (Oxford UP, 2022). Three articles and other readings are available for this session. Lindsay Stern’s “Laughter and the Word”, Emanuele Conte’s “Performances of Law”, and Julie Stone Peters’ “Performing Law”. In addition to the historical and critical research, we will see the extraordinary importance of this research for contemporary critical thought and practice.
